What Is Sculptra?

Sculptra is an injectable biostimulator that uses poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) to restore the skin’s foundation and improve skin health through increased collagen and elastin production.

Poly-L-lactic acid stimulates collagen-producing cells known as fibroblasts, which trigger the body’s healing process. As a result, collagen and elastin production increase, providing the skin with strength, structure, and elasticity.

Unlike other dermal fillers, Sculptra doesn’t produce immediate results. Increasing the body’s collagen levels is a gradual process that takes 3 to 4 months. Following a series of 3 to 8 sessions, each 4 to 6 weeks apart, you should notice improved skin texture and restored volume that lasts 2 to 5 years.

Taking Care of Your Sculptra Injections

Achieving optimal Sculptra results relies on clients preparing their skin before the appointment and taking care of their skin after. At Restoration MedSpa, we recommend following these preparation steps:

Things to Do
  • Take arnica supplements for 3 days leading up to your appointment.
  • Drink plenty of water and eat a small snack the day of your appointment.
  • Arrive with a clean face free of makeup or skincare products.
  • Use a cold compress to reduce bruising and swelling.
  • Massage the treatment area for 5 minutes, 5 times a day, for 5 days following your appointment (the 5-5-5 method).
  • Stay hydrated.
Things to Avoid
  • Refrain from taking anti-inflammatory or blood-thinning medications for 5 days before your appointment.
  • Avoid retinoids and harsh or exfoliating skincare products 3 days before.
  • Avoid drinking alcohol or using tobacco 48 hours before the appointment.
  • We can not treat patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Avoid sleeping on the treatment area(s), keeping your head elevated for 3 days following treatment.
  • Do not exercise or engage in any strenuous activity that will cause excessive sweating for 24 hours following injection.
  • Avoid hot tubs, saunas, and pools for 1 week.
  • Avoid direct sunlight and wear SPF 30, reapplying every 2 hours, for 1 week following treatment.
