Lip Threading
Lip threading is an FDA-approved treatment that passes miniature threads or sutures through the skin, lining the lips to achieve a more defined pout. This treatment has started to gain ground as a more subtle way of accentuating the lips. It consists of using threads made from polydioxannone (PDO) and placing them in the lips to help stimulate collagen production and therefore change both the shape and size of the lip. The collagen stimulation is subtle, so there is a more noticed change in definition than volume of the lip itself. The outline of your lips is likely to be more raised and therefore more defined.
Lip threading is a safe treatment when administered by advanced professionals like those at Restoration MedSpa, who have been trained for the procedure by experts in the field. There may be some pain, as is the case with many procedures, and there could be bruising that can take up to two weeks to heal. Speak to your medical concierge during your complimentary consultation with Restoration MedSpa to learn more about Lip Threading and whether it is right for you.
Lip Fillers
Lip fillers are injected with needles into the lips for a fuller, plumper appearance. Once injected, the gel in the filler supports and shapes the tissue of the lips. This allows control over volume and treatments can be paced so that the volume is increased over time until you reach the desired natural looking results.
There are many different brands of fillers. Restoration MedSpa offers: Juvederm Volbella™ XC, Juvederm Vollure™ XC, and many other types for any of your rejuvenation and improvement goals. If you think Lip Fillers are the way you want to go, just schedule with your medical concierge at Restoration MedSpa, and she will advise you on the many different types and which one is best for you and your overall goals.
Threading vs. Fillers
Besides the obvious differences, these two treatments have some similarities and differences. While they both break down naturally over time in the lips, it can be more difficult to “reverse” the lip threading if desired. Lip threading will also last longer than lip filler, but again, is more complicated to remove if desired.
Lip threading has been known to be more uncomfortable and cause bruising more than having fillers due to no anesthesia being used during the treatment. Both treatments have their pros and cons.
